He was born in Heraklion, Crete in 1963 and studied cinema and art history in Athens and Paris. He worked as a festival organizer, independent curator and film critic for newspapers and magazines. In 1995 he co-founded the Athens International Film Festival and in 2011 the Athens Open Air Film Festival and directed them until 2016. He has designed, curated and presented a number of exhibitions and installations such as: Space Story (a polymorphic installation- 2009), Hole (a thematic research project which included 16 participating Athenian museums, 2010-2011), Kafka Zone (a special tribute to Franz Kafka -2011) Rêv(e)olution (a narrative installation- 2012), Frame– Light – Motion (a polymorphic installation on the origins and the future of film 2014), The Secret (2015). In 2013 he was decorated as a Chevalier dans l’ Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. In 2016 he was appointed Artistic Director of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. |
